Meta AI stopped waiting for you to ask: it acts now.
Two weeks after shipping the Muse Spark 1.1 model, Meta flipped the switch on what it was built for. Starting July 24, 2026, Meta AI in the app and on meta.ai can make plans, connect to your email and calendar, run recurring tasks, research topics on its own, build slides — and follow through without being re-prompted. This is Meta's version of the agent race everyone else is running. Here's the tour, and the one decision to make before you connect anything.
What you can now hand off
The pattern across every new feature: you describe the outcome once, and Meta AI owns the follow-through. Meta's own launch examples, translated to the everyday version:

Research that ends in slides
Ask Meta AI to dig into a topic and it now runs a proper deep dive — synthesizing the open web, research papers, and (this is the Meta-flavored part) what creators and communities post across Meta's own apps. When it's done, one more ask turns the findings into generated slides.
The detail we like most: you can steer it mid-job. While it assembles a report or deck, tell it to shift focus, change the tone, or cut a section, and it course-corrects live instead of starting over. Everything it makes lands in one place where you can revisit, build on, or share it.
How to check if you have it
Open the Meta AI app or meta.ai and ask for something with follow-through built in: "Give me a daily briefing at 8am" or "Plan my sister's birthday dinner next month." If it offers to set up the recurring task or asks to connect your calendar, you're in the rollout. If it just answers once, you're not yet — it began July 24 in select markets, with more countries and surfaces (including WhatsApp) promised in the coming weeks.
The honest part
"Handles things for you" means "sees things about you." The daily briefing needs your calendar. Inbox awareness needs your email. The shopping features work because Meta AI watches what you browse and like across Meta's apps — and Meta is a company whose business is knowing what you'll buy. Will it work in WhatsApp?
Meta says WhatsApp and other surfaces are coming "in the coming weeks" after the July 24 start. Today it's the Meta AI app and meta.ai.
How is this different from ChatGPT's or Gemini's agents?
Same race, different home turf. ChatGPT's agent features center on work documents and the browser; Gemini's on Google's office suite. Meta AI's edge is the social graph: Marketplace scouting, creator-and-community research, and living inside apps you already open daily. Its gap: it can't touch your spreadsheets.
