Outreach that actually gets replies.

The false choice in sales is blast-a-template or hand-write-a-few. This lesson does both: a proven message structure with a genuinely personal hook from your research in each one, plus follow-up sequences that add value — all while staying on the right side of the rules.

The mental model

Personalization at scale = a strong template plus a real, specific hook per person. Generic gets deleted.

The trap is a false choice: blast a generic template to hundreds, or hand-write a few. AI lets you do both — a proven message structure, with a genuinely personal hook from your research dropped into each one. The structure scales; the hook makes it land.

The Reframe

The follow-up is where the replies are. Most people send once and quit. A short, value-adding sequence of two or three touches out-performs the first message every time — if each one earns its place.

Step 01 What a reply-getting message looks like

Step 02 Personalize at scale

Write one strong template with a slot for the personal hook, then let AI fill the slot per prospect from your research.

Outreach promptHere’s my message template: [template with a {hook} slot]. Here’s the research on this prospect: [brief]. Write the personalized version — natural opening hook from the research, keep it under 90 words, one clear ask, conversational not salesy. Don’t invent anything not in the research.

Step 03 Build a follow-up sequence

Plan two or three follow-ups, each adding something new — never “just bumping this”:

A 3-touch sequence

  1. Touch 1 — the personalized opener.
  2. Touch 2 (a few days later) — a new angle or a useful resource.
  3. Touch 3 — a short, gracious final note that makes saying “not now” easy.
Two ways to wreck this: outreach so obviously templated it reads as spam (fix with a real hook and a human edit), and ignoring the rules. Cold email is regulated (CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and others): use real opt-outs, don’t hide who you are, don’t use shady scraped lists, and respect unsubscribes. Being relevant and compliant isn’t optional — it protects your domain and your reputation.

Your challenge: write a 3-touch sequence

Take a prospect you researched in Lesson 1:

  1. Write one strong template with a personal-hook slot.
  2. Have AI personalize it from the research, under 90 words.
  3. Plan a 3-touch sequence where each message adds something.
  4. Add a real opt-out and confirm your approach is compliant.

That’s personalized outreach with disciplined follow-up, done right. Next, connect research, messaging, and your CRM into a system that runs the pipeline — that’s Lesson 3.

What you can do now

  • Write messages that are relevant, short, and easy to say yes to
  • Personalize a template at scale using research hooks
  • Build a value-adding follow-up sequence
  • Avoid the obvious-template spam tell
  • Stay compliant with cold-outreach rules and opt-outs
