Your very first chat with AI — nothing to be afraid of.
If you can send a text message, you can use AI. It's just a friendly helper you talk to by typing. Let's take the very first step together — slowly, and with nothing to worry about.
The idea
AI is a helper you talk to in plain words.
Think of it like a patient assistant who has read a great deal and is happy to help. You type a question or a request, and it writes an answer back, the same way a knowledgeable friend might. You don't need any special words or buttons — just type the way you'd speak.
You truly cannot break it. There is no wrong question, and nothing bad happens if you make a typo or ask something simple. Take your time.
Step 1Open a free AI helper
The most common one is called ChatGPT, and there's a free version. You can open it in your web browser at chatgpt.com, or our own playground right here. You'll see a box at the bottom that says something like 'Message' or 'Ask anything.'
Step 2Type a question, just like talking
Click in that box and type a real question in your own words. Then press Enter (or tap the arrow). In a few seconds, an answer appears. That's it — that's a 'chat.'
Step 3Keep the conversation going
You don't start over each time. You can reply to what it said, just like a back-and-forth conversation. If an answer is confusing, ask it to explain more simply.
Your first try
Let's get one real chat under your belt. There's no wrong way to do this:
- Open a free AI helper.
- Type: 'Tell me one interesting fact about [something you like].'
- Read the answer, then type 'Tell me more.' and watch it continue.
- That's it — you've used AI.
What you can do now
- Understand that AI is a helper you talk to by typing
- Open a free AI helper and find the typing box
- Ask a question in your own plain words
- Keep a conversation going and ask for simpler explanations
