Your Life Story, Part 4 — making the book.
This is the part that feels impossible and is actually easy now. You have chapters. Today they become a manuscript, and the manuscript becomes a real book with your name on the spine.
PolishThe gentle edit
Chapter by chapter, ask AI to fix spelling and punctuation, smooth rough transitions — and change nothing else: "Do not improve my style. It is supposed to sound like me." Read each polished chapter aloud one last time.
PhotosPictures where they belong
Choose 10 to 30 photos and decide where each goes. Ask AI to write the captions from what you tell it about each picture — and date them as best you can. "Mom and Dad, Lake Erie, about 1954" is a gift to whoever holds this book in fifty years.
Print itFrom file to hardcover
Ask AI to explain your printing options in simple terms: photo-book services and print-on-demand sites all turn a document into a hardcover for roughly the cost of a nice dinner. Have it walk you through the upload steps for whichever you pick — or deputize a grandchild for the final upload; they will be honored.
Order at least three copies: one for you, one for each branch of the family. Books survive. Files get lost.
