What Google Gemini actually costs.
Gemini's pricing has an extra wrinkle: it's partly bundled into Google subscriptions and partly per-token via the API. Here's what each tier costs and what a prompt really runs you — honest June 2026 numbers.
01 The plans
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Gemini in the app + basic Workspace help |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99/mo | Higher limits, Gemini across Gmail/Docs/Sheets, more storage |
| Google AI Ultra | $249.99/mo | Top models, highest limits, premium features — for serious power users |
Gemini is often bundled with Google One / Workspace, so check what you already pay for before adding a plan — you may have some of it already.
02 Pay-per-use (the API)
The Gemini API charges per token. The everyday model is genuinely cheap, and Gemini's huge context window makes it strong for long documents. Current rate (per 1M tokens, input / output):
| Model | Input / Output (per 1M) |
|---|---|
| Gemini 3.5 Flash | $1.50 / $9 |
Flash is built for speed and volume. The Pro model costs more for deeper reasoning — reach for it only when a job genuinely needs it.
03 What a prompt actually costs
- Quick question (~250 in / 350 out): a fraction of a cent.
- Summarize a 2-page doc (~800 in / 1,200 out): about $0.012 on Flash — among the cheapest of the majors.
- Analyze a long report (~2,500 in / 3,500 out): roughly $0.035 on Flash; more on Pro.
Gemini Flash is one of the cheapest ways to run high-volume or long-document work on the API. For everyday use, the value question is really "do I already pay Google for this?" — since Gemini rides along with Workspace and Google One. Don't double-pay for capability you already have.
04 Which is right for you?
- Casual / already on Google: Free tier, or whatever's bundled with your Google One.
- Workspace power user: Google AI Pro ($19.99).
- Heavy / top-model needs: Ultra ($249.99) — only if you'll use it.
- Builder / long-doc, high-volume: API on Flash — cheap and fast.

Check what Google subscriptions you already pay for (Google One, Workspace). Gemini features are increasingly bundled — you may be about to pay $20 for something you partly already have. Audit first, then decide.
